Worcester, MASSACHUSETTS, [May 20, 2021] – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Worcester is proud to announce Liz Hamilton as one of seven Club leaders across the country who were selected to receive the 2021 Maytag Dependable Leader Award. The award, through a national partnership between Maytag Brand and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, includes a $20,000 financial grant for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Worcester.

The Maytag Dependable Leader Award recognizes Club officials who are committed to making a difference in the lives of youth and who are dependable and exceptional role models.  The 2021 Maytag Dependable Leaders join a distinguished group of 121 winners from the past 20 years. Each individual is nominated by peers at their local Boys & Girls Club and following a comprehensive review of the nomination forms, Maytag selects the winners. The $20,000 grant will support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Worcester’s new initiative – The Mentor Connection. The Mentor Connection will pair 100 Club members with mentors in the business community to create impactful and encouraging relationships. The Club will host a Mentor Match day in celebration of this award in late October.

As the first female executive director in the Club’s 132-year history, Liz Hamilton oversees our flagship Clubhouse located in the Main South Neighborhood and three outreach sites. During her tenure, Liz has grown the Club programs including food pantry, girls-only programs, and a case management department. Liz’s outstanding leadership has been recognized locally by the Worcester Business Journal and the United Way of Central Massachusetts. Since Liz became executive director, the annual operational budget has grown to $3,5M, of which 92% is comprised of donations and grants, as most programs and services are free or at a reduced cost for the youth. The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester employs over 100 individuals each year, many are teens experiencing their first time in the workforce.

Maytag plays an intricate part in making sure Boys & Girls Clubs members have opportunities to explore their passions. Throughout the partnership, Maytag has provided nearly $10 million to help deserving youth reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Together Maytag and Boys & Girls Clubs of America celebrate dependability – a quality that is at the core of what the Clubs do every day and is central to Maytag brand.
