POSITION: Boxing Instructor
REPORTS TO: Senior Case Manager
HOURS OF WORK: Part Time – 25 hours
WORK STATUS: Non-Exempt
The Boys & Girls Club of Worcester seeks a part-time Boxing Instructor for our Harrington Clubhouse Fitness Center with regulation boxing ring and equipment, located in the Main South Neighborhood in Worcester. This position is a 25-hour per week, Monday through Friday work week, during the school year working evening hours up to 8 p.m. There is potential for additional hours during our summer programming 8am to 4pm, to be considered seasonal employment. In addition, boxing matches and competitions may occur on weekends.
The Boxing Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of youth and implementing fun and engaging boxing skills and drills and competitive boxing programming directed for members, ages 8 – 18.
The Boxing Instructor will report directly to the Senior Case Manager and work with the Fitness Program Assistant. The Boxing Instructor may participate in special programs or events. Under the direction of the Senior Case Manager, the Boxing Instructor is responsible for the daily activities of members while they are in the Fitness Center. Light maintenance and upkeep of program areas and the facilities will be required to maintain the cleanliness of the Clubhouse. May be required to lift up to fifty (50 pounds) and currently licensed or eligible to be licensed through USA Boxing. Participation in other Clubhouse activities may be required, such as supporting other programming. Must have reliable transportation.
Experience: A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people. Prior boxing instruction, and or equivalent background.
Education: High School degree (or equivalent) required; USA boxing certification preferred.
Skills/Knowledge required in the following areas:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong computer/technological skills preferred.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- CPR and First Aid certifications, preferred.
- Concussion Prevention and Safe Sport Training, preferred.
- Must have a valid MA state driver’s license and willing to drive the Club van to practices and competitions.
- Bilingual, preferred.
