Dedication to delivering hope and opportunity to our youth runs deep, and is the foundation for our music program. While many disadvantaged young people don’t have the opportunity to engage in music exploration, members at the Boys & Girls Club are exposed to music in ways like never before. Members interested in learning to play the piano and keyboard are offered lessons and practice time daily, incorporating learning strategies that continue to reinforce academic success. The music program uses a multifaceted approach, incorporating tactile elements, historical and ethnic exploration, basic music theory, games, activities and crafts, and mentoring.
The Beat Team is a group of gifted and dedicated music students who perform at Club and community events, such as The Martin Luther King Jr, Birthday Celebration, Bob Marley Birthday Bash, Mike Briggs Benefit, and First Night Worcester. Beat Team members learn:
- Music theory and history
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Discipline and self-control
- Dedication and hard work
Club members also have the opportunity to song-write and record their songs in a modern digital recording studio. New to our Club are drum lessons and our girls-only glee club, while the Boys & Girls Club seeks to open all doors for our members. Kids are creative, and the Boys & Girls Club is committed to providing them a place where they can confidently excel, and express their ideas.
The debut music video from The Beat Team, our music group, is here! The Beat Team Director Keith Chester coaches a group of dedicated and talented youth who incorporate keyboards, vocals, and other instruments into creating their unique music. We are proud of what they have accomplished, and we can't wait to see where it takes them in the future!
