Dance

Our award-winning dance team, In Da Zone proudly represents our Club at public performances around the state including the city-wide Youth Summit, the African-American Festival, The Greater Worcester Community Foundation’s Donor Appreciation event held at the Hanover Theatre, and U-Mass Memorial Healthcare’s Martin Luther King luncheon. In 2011, In Da Zone danced their way to victory, collecting the gold at Assumption College’s Dance Competition. Over the past four years, In Da Zone has collected several trophies, six of which were first place. In 2013 and 2018, InDaZone was selected by Boys & Girls Club of American out of 200 entries each time to perform at their National Convention.

The Boys & Girls Club’s dance team uses a multi-faceted approach, requiring dance team members to meet minimum volunteer and academic requirements as well. Members must submit quarterly report cards and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average to continue performing, while also completing academic hours in the Boys & Girls Club’s Learning Center.  There, they work on their own homework while tutoring younger members.  Members participate in volunteer projects on a monthly basis, and attend workshops as available.  Workshops are designed around dancer’s interest in the arts, while lessons promote:

  • Self-esteem
  • Organizational skills and time management
  • Communication skills
  • Personal growth and goal-setting

Thanks to supporters such as Mass Cultural Council, who provide our dancers with professional ballet lessons, our members are receiving a wide range of dance training.

Offering a support system, wellness training, and character building, our dance program at the Boys & Girls Club provides everything our members need so they can BE GREAT.
